We, the Democrats of United States Virgin Islands, united in common purpose; hereby rededicate ourselves to the principles which have historically sustained the Democratic Party of the USA.
Recognizing the validity of our island's political institutions has been the foundation of its enduring strength, we acknowledge that a political party which wishes to lead must listen to those it would lead, a party which asks for the people's trust must prove that it trusts the people. And a party which hopes to call forth the best the Island can achieve must embody the best of the Islands' heritage and traditions.
The Virgin Islands are currently located in the northeastern part of the Caribbean. Combined, they make up three island gems: Saint Croix, Saint Thomas, and Saint John. There have been many changes since 1917, when the United States purchased the islands from Denmark. The flag of the United States Virgin Islands was adopted on May 17, 1921, marking one of many key changes.
There are several core beliefs that tie our party together: Democrats believe that we’re greater together than we are on our own — that this country succeeds when everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same rules. Our party is focused on building an economy that lifts up all Americans, not just those at the top.
